Sam Butler is the Head of Engineering at Hermetic AI, where he owns technical direction across the company and is scaling the team and platform to deliver enterprise-grade AI agents for the hospitality industry. Sam focuses on building high-performing engineering organizations and the distributed systems that power applied AI at scale.
Before joining Hermetic AI, Sam was an Engineering Manager at Procore, where he led the development of the Agent Builder Platform, the first of its kind at Procore, and Procore Assist, servicing over 17,000 customer organizations with more than 300 AI agents in production.
Earlier, at project44, Sam founded the Machine Learning Operations team, building the infrastructure that served models for 13 data scientists and cut first model deployment time from 30 days to under an hour. He also led the data engineering and in-product analytics organizations, with roughly 30 engineers across his teams.
At Convey (acquired by project44), Sam patented a distributed system for predicting errors in shipment networks and led the platform team in scaling the system from 100 million to processing over one billion events per month.
He began his career building physician performance analytics at The Advisory Board Company, and later worked at BlackLocus, The Home Depot's research and innovation lab, where he partnered with data science teams on AI-driven competitive intelligence, price recommendation, and human-in-the-loop systems.
He holds a BS in Computer Science from the University of Louisiana Monroe.
